In filling out the TEDx talk application, I was asked what I am passionate about… in 500 characters or less. This is what I came up with:
I am passionate about cultivating the emotional intelligence of young people. Children need to know the stages of grief they’ll go through after loss, so when in shock, anger, or depression they know it is completely normal, there is nothing wrong with them, and their reactions to trauma are biologically out of their control. We lose teenagers to suicide because they don’t know they are going to come out on the other side. At nineteen I considered it a crime I had not been taught it earlier.
