After starting to write in the summer of 2008, I spent all of my energy that school year preparing to write again the summer of 2009. I painted and prepared the boat. That summer came and I had a sewage catastrophe on the boat, which only allowed me to write 15 days that summer. I was sorely depressed about that. I only got up to page 252. This was also the most depressing time writing because I had to write about all of the bad things I did as a kid… Ugh… I tired to write on weekends at the boat, but did not seem to be able to….
…so I waited until the next summer (2010) to continue. I went to stay at Mary’s house in Australia. I wrote for 15 days and got up to page 321. When I got back to school in the fall, I was determined to write throughout the 2010-11 school year. I wrote each weekend and by October I was at page 490. Finished. Then it was time to edit and whittle it down. Little did I know how difficult that task was going to be. It took me a solid year of every weekend and all summer (2011) to whittle it down to 297 pages and call it complete. Excruciatingly grueling work. October 4, 2011… the joy of finishing was mine!
